Hello Windsor Baseball League Players, Parents and Coaches!
On behalf of the 2012 Board of Directors, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the 2012 Windsor Baseball season. We are underway planning for the upcoming season and look forward to your involvement to make this season successful.
As we begin meeting, our goal is to provide the children in our league the opportunity for success, to learn about teamwork, respect, self-discipline and good sportsmanship while teaching baseball concepts and an appreciation for the game. The bottom line, though, is "did they have fun?" We hope our program provides the answer we want to hear: yes! We spend a considerable amount of time reviewing our efforts of the previous year to determine how we can improve. We discuss issues in regards to coaches, umpire, playing fields, rules, etc. Our goals sometimes outpace our abilities as we are all busy parents, ourselves, trying to find time in our schedules to come together twice a month. It's not always easy, so bear with us if we haven't addressed issues you would like to see resolved. Let us know, but be considerate that we, too, want things to be better.
As we begin our 5th year of affiliation with the Babe Ruth League we ask ourselves, "Are we seeing positive results?" The entering freshman baseball class will attest to one of our goals: preparing our players for high school ball as they will be the first class who participated in Cal Ripken throughout most of their little league career. We look forward to hearing from those coaches.
Our other goal has been to provide the best baseball experience for all our players. As players move up, real baseball is introduced beginning in Minor AAA. Skills such as leading off, bunting and stealing are just a few of the basic skills these players learn and then bring with them up to the Majors division. Our Majors division is now totally comprised of players who have been playing Cal Ripken.
Some of you may have read that our Babe Ruth division has now joined with Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa to form the North Bay Babe Ruth League. This league will serve all players, aged 13-15, living within Sonoma County except the Sonoma Valley. What this means is that Windsor Baseball will only be made up of players 5-12. The new league will be an independent, stand alone entity. Aside from our players participating, we will have no direct oversight or control of any part of this league. Please find more information at the tab located at top of page.
We are very excited this year due to the pending opening of a revitalized and beautiful new baseball complex located within Keiser Park. This complex is the culmination of many years of work within the Town management as a result of community discussions urging for the development of ballfields within the Town. Funding was made possible by grants and special revenues that are directed specifically at park improvements.
As always, thanks are given to the many volunteers who step up to the plate to make our program work: managers, coaches, team parents, umpires and many others who work behind the scenes. If you haven't taken the time to volunteer, please think about doing so this season. Help deliver on the goal of providing a positive and rewarding experience to our kids.
Please feel free to speak to any Board member, at any time, about anything. Issues or comments can be rapidly addressed with open communication. Same for communicaiton with your child's coach(es). Let's continue to provide a terrific, positive environment at the ballpark to help our kids learn and grow.
Again, I welcome you to the 2011 season. Let's PLAY BALL!!!
